The Han Kuang 42 live-troop exercise entered its defense-in-depth and sustained-operations phase, with the Military Police Reserve Brigade conducting a counter-air-landing drill near Songshan Airport from the night of August 10 into the early hours of August 11. According to the exercise scenario, enemy forces had gained air superiority and used agent infiltration, drone reconnaissance and harassment to support an air-landing assault on Songshan Airport. The Military Police Reserve Brigade's 3rd Infantry Battalion was deployed on mid-level protection missions alongside supporting friendly forces.
Military Police began setting up six layers of obstacles at both entrances of the Fubei underpass around 10 p.m., including Jersey barriers, steel hedgehogs, concertina wire, HESCO bastions, and a bus parked horizontally across the road, with anti-tank mines interspersed within the first five layers. A military bus was positioned at the intersection of Minquan East Road Section 5 and Fuyuan Street around 10:30 p.m., blocking the westbound lane for the drill while eastbound traffic continued.
Military Police stationed on Minquan East Road Section 5 began firing blank rounds at approximately 11:47 p.m. to simulate combat. Troops were armed with T91 combat rifles and T75 squad machine guns, with some officers carrying T75K3 pistols. The first wave of simulated engagement broke out around 11:50 p.m., simulating enemy agents and scattered forces attempting to cross through the Fubei underpass toward Dazhi Bridge to advance on the Joint Operations Command Center.
The Military Police 228th Battalion's drone company deployed unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance support. The majority of the 3rd Infantry Battalion's forces were stationed at the south exit of the Fubei underpass, with one squad at the north exit and additional forces deployed at rooftop vantage points on surrounding apartment buildings. The drill concluded at approximately 12:30 a.m. after the simulated enemy forces were cleared.
The Military Police Command stated that the exercise verified the reserve units' mobilization formation, pre-combat training and defense-combat capabilities, while strengthening coordination and integrated employment efficiency with friendly forces.
