A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture on the afternoon of July 28, leading to overcrowded conditions in evacuation centers where a COVID-19 case was identified on August 2. Tzu Chi noted that an initial shipment of 148 folding beds and 40 partitions arrived at the emergency relief supply center in Yatsushiro, Kumamoto on August 3, aimed at improving privacy and reducing infection risks for displaced residents.
