Joby Aviation announced on August 4, 2026, that it is partnering with Atoms, a smart infrastructure firm started in 2021 by Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, to develop a network of vertiports in the United States. Through this partnership, both companies aim to have the necessary ground infrastructure ready to roll out advanced air mobility operations as soon as eVTOL aircraft receive regulatory clearance.

The companies will give priority to Florida, New York, Texas, and California when searching for potential vertiport sites. Joby Aviation, based in California, is a participant in the US government's eVTOL Integration Pilot Program aimed at accelerating industry development. Joby founder JoeBen Bevirt noted that as air taxis approach commercial service, appropriate infrastructure and city adoption are increasingly critical.
